1) You drive 1 car and therefore can afford to look at the road instead of the dashboard. What happens if you need to drive 100 cars on different roads, all at the same time?
All reports are DEFINITELY wrong, but what's the alternative solution when being closer to the work is not possible by the laws of Newtonian physics (ie, you can only be in one place at any given time because, you know, in classical mechanics objects and humans have a specific position in space at any given moment)?
I am reminded of the first step of AA: “We admitted we were powerless —that our lives had become unmanageable”
The first thing you should do is stop pretending that your reports provide a comprehensive and correct picture of the world.
Then you should probably stop punishing people who tell you things that you don’t like because that’s one big reason why information is hidden from you.
And if you can’t be closer to all of the work then you should be closer to at least some of it.
None of this is easy. But if it was then anyone could be a CEO.

2) I like Piers Morgan's writing 😂
To misquote George Box: All reports are wrong, some are useful. The managers I know who rely only on reports know less than they think.

Laurence Olivier, shit, I thought it was Keanu Reeves...the keanuification of the internet 🤷♂️
Great article and one I'll be applying to my own professional life situation, which interestingly, takes place at a coal mine.
And, wouldn't this be Hamlet that Keanu Olivier is preforming in?!

The most non-performative leadership I've ever seen on a semi-regular basis was what was being taught at drama school. Ironic.
