Thanks Matt - an important, difficult and sobering read.
I have just been reading psychoanalyst Christopher Bollas's essay, 'The Destiny Drive', making a distinction between fate and destiny (terms often used synonymously). In it - tracing the use of these terms in the ancient world and over past centuries - he distinguishes destiny (the sense of a calling which, by marshalling one's resources and acting assertively upon the world, one can approach and fulfil) on the one hand, from fate (a sentence spoken against someone, with tragic connotations, associations with hamartia or 'tragic flaw') which works itself out according to different processes.
In the UK, there's the child abuse prevention charity, 'Stop It Now'. "We can help you if you are worried about your own thoughts, feelings or behaviour, or with any concerns about another adult or young person." https://www.stopitnow.org.uk/
