In the last couple of weeks, I have been absolutely caning two albums. One those is Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (thanks to the recommendation of M’Learned Friend Phil Mason).
Her songs are joyous, moving, horny, thoughtful, funny, and slathering to the gills in 80s style pop hooks.
The standout track for me at the moment is Pink Pony Club. While obviously a song about the conflict between being gay and coming from a conservative background, anyone who has left somewhere intolerant of diversity for the bright lights (and blessed moral apathy) of the big city can relate.
So I was very pleased to see that this Halloween-themed performance on the weekend’s SNL that totally leans into the camp elements of the song without sacrificing its emotional heft.
I’m not crying, you’re crying.
If you haven’t listened to the album then I insist that you rectify this unfortunate oversight immediately.

That was very good. I myself have been binging BRAT for a few months now. Getting tips on killer pop choons from one’s own daughter is a special thrill.
